“This young spanish quartet impresses with its beautiful ensemble sound. At times fiery, then tender and transparent. Like a blank canvas they let themselves be overwhelmed by the music”

(Jury of Dutch Classical Talent)

Founded in 2022 and based in Basel, Osimun Quartet is a Spanish saxophone quartet whose approach begins with listening: to one another, to the score and to what makes each work unique. They shape their sound to serve the music, seeking performances with depth, character and a direct connection with the audience.

Their programmes are an essential part of this approach. Bringing together their own transcriptions, original repertoire and new commissions, they choose works for what they can say together. Each programme offers a distinct perspective, born from the music and its connection to human experience.

Following appearances at the Davos Festival and Gent Festival van Vlaanderen in 2026, the quartet will make its debut at London’s Wigmore Hall in January 2027. Highlights of the 2026/27 season also include a twelve-concert tour as selected artists of The Best of NRW, the Martes Musicales series of Fundación Vital Fundazioa, and the first of two seasons touring Spain through the Juventudes Musicales de España national network. The ensemble has also been selected by Bern University of the Arts for a CD recording project devoted to its own transcription of Haydn’s The Seven Last Words of Christ.

Osimun has performed at the Concertgebouw and Muziekgebouw in Amsterdam, Muziekgebouw Eindhoven, De Bijloke in Ghent, TauberPhilharmonie, Solti Hall in Budapest and the Palace of Culture in Târgu Mureș. As finalists of Dutch Classical Talent, they undertook a fifteen-concert tour of the Netherlands in 2025.

Their awards include First Prize at the Juventudes Musicales de España Chamber Music Competition and the ErftClassics Award in 2025, First Prize at the Storioni Competition in 2023, and Second Prize at the Hochschule für Musik und Tanz Köln Chamber Music Competition in 2025. They were also finalists at the Dutch Classical talent Competition and the Big Little Music Competition in 2025. The quartet has received support from the Dörken Stiftung and scholarships from Jeunesses Musicales Deutschland for three consecutive years, from 2023 to 2025. Further invitations include AIEnruta Clásicos and MUSAE.

Close collaboration with composers is central to their work, with artistic relationships including Charlotte Bray, Arjan Linker, Robert Seara and Milo Paulus. With Linker, they developed Nocturne for saxophone quartet and tape, premiered in the Netherlands in 2025. In September 2026, they premiered Paulus’s Yellow Cells at Gent Festival van Vlaanderen, in a programme connecting Bach’s The Art of Fugue and Ligeti’s Six Bagatelles. In December 2026, they will give the world premiere of Robert Seara’s in much wisdom there is much grief at the Auditori Enric Granados in Lleida. Alongside these collaborations, their own transcriptions allow them to explore repertoire that continues to shape their identity as chamber musicians.

The quartet is pursuing a Master’s degree in Chamber Music with Patrick Jüdt at Bern University of the Arts, while continuing its artistic development with Anton Kernjak at the Musik-Akademie Basel. Their training also encompasses the European Chamber Music Academy, with Johannes Meissl and Patrick Jüdt, and the Netherlands String Quartet Academy, including work with Quatuor Ébène and Eberhard Feltz.

Alongside their performances, Osimun’s members are active as educators and artistic curators. In May 2026, the quartet participated in Musethica Zaragoza, bringing chamber music to audiences in different social settings and placing the encounter between musicians and listeners at the centre of the experience.
